Localization in Flow of Non-Newtonian Fluids Through Disordered Porous Media

We combine results of high-resolution microfluidic experiments with extensive numerical simulations to show how the flow patterns inside a “swiss-cheese” type pore geometry can be systematically controlled through intrinsic rheological properties fluid. Precisely, our analysis reveals that velocity field in interstitial space tends display enhanced channeling under certain conditions. This observed “localization”, quantified by spatial distribution kinetic energy, then explained terms strong interplay between disordered and nonlinear rheology Our disclose possibility constitutive fluid enhance performance chemical reactors chromatographic devices control porous media.
